울산을 기반으로 활동하며 40여 년 동안 전국의 연밭을 찾아다니며 연꽃을 주제로 한 작품 활동을 이어오고 있습니다. 연꽃이 피어나는 순간부터 시들 때까지의 과정을 기록하며, 그 속에서 인간의 삶과 감정, 그리고 시간이 만들어내는 깊이를 사진으로 담아내고 있습니다.
연꽃을 단순한 자연의 아름다움으로 바라보는 데 그치지 않고, 형태와 질감의 일부를 집중적으로 포착하여 추상적인 조형미로 확장하거나, 물이라는 요소를 활용한 공간 연출을 통해 보다 입체적인 작품 세계를 보여주고자 노력하고 있습니다.
울산문화예술회관 개인전 《여인의 향기》(2018)를 비롯하여 통도사 개산대재 초대전 《산사의 향기》(2021), 한국에너지공단 KEA 에너지아트센터 및 신흥사 초대전 《침묵의 향기》(2022), 울주선바위도서관 초대전 《연-결》(2024) 등 다양한 전시를 통해 꾸준히 작품을 선보여 왔습니다.
연꽃을 통해 첫사랑의 설렘과 어머니의 품 같은 그리움, 그리고 자연이 지닌 겸손함을 배우고 있으며, 작품을 통해 관람객 여러분께 위안과 사색의 시간이 전해지기를 바라는 마음으로 작업을 계속하고 있습니다.

Profile
Based in Ulsan, the artist has devoted more than four decades to photographing lotus flowers, traveling across the country to capture their diverse forms and moments. Through documenting the lotus from its blooming to its fading stages, the work reflects on the emotions of human life, the passage of time, and the depth found within nature.
Rather than simply portraying the beauty of nature, the artist reinterprets the lotus from a contemporary artistic perspective. By focusing on close-up details that emphasize abstract forms and textures, and by experimenting with spatial installations incorporating water, the artist continues to expand a distinctive visual language.
Major exhibitions include the solo exhibition The Scent of a Woman (2018) at Ulsan Culture & Arts Center, the invited exhibition The Scent of a Mountain Temple (2021) at Tongdosa Temple, The Scent of Silence (2022) at KEA Energy Art Center and Sinheungsa Temple, and Lotus – Connection (2024) at Ulju Seonbawi Library.
Through the lotus, the artist reflects on the excitement of first love, the warmth of a mother's embrace, and the humility found in nature, with the hope that these works may offer viewers a quiet moment of comfort and contemplation.
